A good general sale of prints , the September Prints & Multiples sale at Sotheby’s is an opportunity to buy works by Andy Warhol, Rembrandt etchings or even an Albrecht Dürer Rhinoceros.
Most interesting are the prints by Edvard Munch, of which Of these Two Human Beings. The Lonely Ones is especially powerful. With a strong estimate of £250-300,ooo it is a specialised purchase but one that will bring great pleasure.
Several Roy Lichtenstein images are for sale including a brightly rendered Haystack, humourously recalling those of Monet. Numbered 110 of 250 it is estimated at £3-5000. Thirty Andy Warhols are up for sale, including some iconic images including Marilyn, Mao and the Queen, along with pieces by Richard Hamilton and Tom Wesselmann. A Great American Nude Cut-Out by Wesselmann is estimated at £4-6000 and should be snapped up.
Sixteen Rembrandt images and 33 Picasso pieces, including ceramics are also in the sale, along with a single Giacometti lithograph (an hors commerce print) which looks a tempting buy at £-4000.
Many more big names fill out the sale including Damien Hirst and David Hockney, though a small Morandi natura morta is one of the other works to keep an eye on (estimate £5-7000).
The Prints & Multiples sale is 16th September at 2pm in London.
